Grams and kilograms are metric units of mass. Because one kilogram contains 1,000 grams, converting between them uses a simple factor.
Grams to kilograms formula
Divide the number of grams by 1,000:
Kilograms = grams ÷ 1,000
For example, 2,500 grams divided by 1,000 equals 2.5 kilograms.

- 100 g = 0.1 kg
- 500 g = 0.5 kg
- 1,000 g = 1 kg
- 1,750 g = 1.75 kg
- 10,000 g = 10 kg
Avoid decimal errors
A common mistake is dividing by 100 instead of 1,000. Check the result by remembering that a value expressed in kilograms should be numerically smaller than the same mass expressed in grams.
